  Responsibilities
 
1. Provision of quality and proactive research services
  • Advice and inform school staff on current research policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with other schools and the Campus Research Management office to ensure that up-to-date information is provided.
  • Maintain school’s data on research output including research publications in DIISR and non-DIISR categories and research income (both internal and external).
  • Provide high quality administrative support to the Research Manager, Research and Postgraduate Studies Office.
  • Provide administrative support to the Deputy Head (Research), as required.
  • Working with the Research Manager, coordinate updates of the school’s research website and research strength/s website/s and regularly check that all information provided are accurate and in accordance with University regulations.



    2. Publication Collection
  • Assist in the coordination of document collection and submission of all DIISR publications by School of Science including assisting in seminars on publication collection run by School Research and Postgraduate Studies Office.
  • Coordinate and prepare all necessary reports and correspondence necessary to facilitate the collection of all evidence of publications specified by DIISR, University and Faculty.
  • Provide advice to school staff on guidelines and policies for DIISR.
  • Assess submitted publications for accuracy and adherence to policies and guidelines set forth by DIISR and University.



    3. Administration of Postgraduate programs
  • Coordinate and administer postgraduate admissions, enrolment, scholarship and progress reporting.
  • Provide advice prospective students regarding the postgraduate programs in accordance with University and Faculty requirements.



    4. Research Funding Administration
  • Assist in the coordination and administration of internal and external research grant funding schemes.
  • Monitoring and overseeing the purchase requisitions for research projects.
  • Advise school researchers on all funding policies and procedures, keeping to date with changes in university policies.
  • Assist in grant application process, including coordination of seminar on preparing grants applications run by the School Research and Postgraduate Studies Office.
  • Facilitate School’s review process for internal funding applications.



    5. Event Management
  • Participate and contribute ideas in research activities related to R&D for example, School Seminar Series, Forums, Workshops and Conferences for stakeholders eg: staff, students and the public to increase the School's visibility.
  • Regular updates of seminar information on the school research website.
  • Coordinate the School’s visiting researchers programme from booking of accommodation and transport to delivery of seminars by the visiting researchers.
  • Liaise with School Management Office on provision of appropriate resources to visiting academics, ie allocation of office space.



    6. Research Data Generation
  • Coordinate the gathering of research data and assist in accurate report generation on DIISR publications, MyRA, HICoE and other research related matters to the Research Manager.

      Requirements
     
  • A tertiary qualification from a recognised institution.
  • Relevant experience in administration or management is desirable, preferably dealing with research matters and postgraduate studies in an education environment.
  • Ability to learn and apply policies, guidelines and precedents in making decisions.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise at all levels and across departments and campuses.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, including the ability to priorities workloads and work to tight timelines.
  • Ability to manage functional responsibilities independently as well as work in a team environment.
  • Adequate skills and experience with a range of software application packages (e.g Microsoft Office) and database management.
