ROLE PURPOSE: To take the lead in providing expert advice and the promotion of data protection compliance and best practice in setting and maintaining standards and procedures across the organization.
Implement the Data Protection framework with a reporting line to the Vice President of Regulatory and Industry Affairs
To act as Chair/Secretary to the Data Protection Working Group ensuring that a representative of each department is a member of the group. The group will be trained on data protection issues and updates and will monitor and share information to ensure that practices across the organization are consistently communicated.
To keep up to date the Data Protection policies and procedures including the breach management policy and to disseminate new rules/regulations on Data Protection Act to staff
To keep up to date with relevant developments, identifying significant trends.
Provide Data Protection advice support and regular training for staff and relevant stakeholders.
Monitor the implementation of Data Protection standards, policies and procedures within the organisation.
Create and maintain procedures for staff, analyze the types of breaches of the Data Protection Act within the organization (if any) and strategize framework changes.
Provide advice on novel/complex issues on the Data Protection Act 20140 and relevant legislation, regulations, rules and codes.
Any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the post and its grading as requested by the line manager or Head of Department/Division.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Demonstrable post-qualification experience as a Legal Officer in a similar job or similar job function.
Demonstrable experience of compliance within a similar role in a large, complex organization
Knowledge of Data Protection Act 2010 and other complex legislation
Proven experience of drafting formal documentation
Experience of advising on data protection issues preferred but not essential
