Incorporated on September 14, 1972, Texas
Instruments Malaysia Sdn Bhd (TIM) is one of the pioneers in the Malaysian
electronics industry. A wholly owned subsidiary of Texas Instruments
Inc (TI) of Dallas, USA, TIM was established to assemble and test
semiconductors for the American semiconductor giant. Today, it has grown to
become TI’s largest volume manufacturing site for semiconductor assembly
and test with a 3,100-strong workforce at its 500k sq ft facility in Ulu Klang Free Trade Zone.
TIM’s product lines have also expanded to include
higher value semiconductor products (SC
Division), automotive pressure sensor and
radio frequency identification devices (S&C
Division). TIM products can be found in various
applications used in our daily lives such as personal computers, mobile
phones, wireless devices and braking systems in automobiles.

Over the past three decades, TIM has invested
more than RM1.2 billion in Malaysia with the vision of becoming a
world-class manufacturing center. To date, TIM has exported more than RM20.2
billion worth of made-in-Malaysia products to markets in the United States, Europe, Japan and Asia-Pacific. In order to
achieve its objective, TIM will focus on three key areas – the effectiveness
of its people, manufacturing excellence and technology leadership.

TIM’s
participative management style provides ample opportunities for personal
development. Self-managed work groups instill responsibility and dedication
as well as encourage collaboration and creative decision making in meeting
company goals. In creating a conducive working environment that allows
individuals to challenge their capabilities, TIM aims to raise the levels of
productivity and innovations significantly. The company is committed to
alleviate the technical competency and technological know-how of its Malaysian
staff through the implementation of world-class processes and equipment
that, in turn, leads to the improvement and development of better
manufacturing technologies.
Over the years, TIM has
practiced the policy of giving back as much as possible to the local
community and the country. TIM has adopted two schools in the Ulu Klang area
through the Young Enterprise (YE) program and the Environmental, Safety and
Health (ESH) program. The former is run under the umbrella of the American
Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) to develop entrepreneurship among
school children while the ESH program aims to raise awareness on the
importance of safety, recycling and being environmentally friendly. TIM
currently recycles almost 90% of its non-hazardous waste. On the business
front, TIM has actively supported the Malaysian government’s drive to help
develop local small and medium industries (SMIs). It has initiated several
strategic partnerships between its foreign and local suppliers. The
objective is to help develop local suppliers to be globally competitive and
fully capable of meeting future challenges. To date TIM has successfully
developed several local companies to be on par with the international
standards and help them to penetrate oversea markets at TI locations such as
Mexico, Taiwan and Philippines.
